Director of Specialty and Field Sales

 

This is a critical role; the Director of Specialty and Field Sales will maintain the “tip of the spear” with respect to customer engagement and collaboration at retail. Their goal is to develop, support, grow, and maintain industry leading sales and service for our retail partners. This Director oversees a multidisciplinary team of independent, in-house and inside sales reps, in collaboration with channel leaders and Key Account managers to achieve revenue and sell through targets for each geographic territory.

Reporting to the VP of Sales, the role is responsible for developing and executing Benchmade’s go to market sales strategy across all channels as it pertains to field team and retail relations. The ideal candidate will have years of experience executing sales and marketing programs at retail and prioritizing the implementation. They will be a strong communicator, driven by process and accountability while advocating for Benchmade and our retail partners at HQ.

 

Responsibilities

  • Work with channel leaders, marketing and product teams to create a retail execution playbook to make Benchmade the preferred and leading brand in specialty retail.
  • Direct field sales team and inside sales reps to achieve revenue targets based on the collaborated strategy.
  • Own the forecasting process for Specialty Retail Channel and work with demand planning to create bottoms up forecasts and sales targets for each sales region.
  • Develop pricing programs and marketing strategies that increase market share and meet growth plans.
  • Edit and amplify the existing dealer base to ensure growth by rewarding performance and eliminating redundancies and poor performance.
  • Responsible for setting priorities, driving sales growth, and expanding market presence in store across all retail channels.
  • Develop an op-ex budget that supports the sales and marketing targets for the field team while being efficient in allocations.
  • Aggregate and communicate customer feedback and competitor insights from Reps and Retailers to ensure Benchmade is always “centered on the customer”
  • Oversee and drive improvement to the sales process to profitably align resources, products and spend to channel growth.
  • Implement and maintain robust CRM reporting and communication with field sales team.
  • Travel with team to meet retailers and clear a path to growth
  • Attend key customer meetings in field and at national tradeshows and events as needed.

Qualifications

 

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Business or other related degree, 9-10 years of experience in progressively responsible sales leadership roles and 5+ years of Sales Management experience is required, preferably managing in-house and independent sales representatives. Equivalency to the qualification standard will also be considered.
  • Excellent organization and communication skills
  • Strong Microsoft Office skills
  • Strong CRM and Pipeline management capabilities
  • Excellent written and verbal skills
  • Excellent presentation skills
  • Willing and able to travel up to 50% of the time

 

Working Conditions:

 

  • Working Environment: Benchmade HQ Office Position
  • Physical Demands: Lifting up to 25 lbs., sitting and talking on the phone and computer for long periods of time.   
  • Travel Requirements: As needed, up to 50% of the time – Domestically
